Development and Communications Internship
About the Iraqi and American Reconciliation Project (IARP):
The Iraqi and American Reconciliation Project (IARP) partners with the Muslim Peacemaker Teams (MPT) in Iraq to build communities of peace and establish long-term, personal connections between Iraqis and Americans. Our programs include exchanging handwritten letters between Iraqi and American students, expanding a Sister City relationship between Minneapolis and Najaf, showcasing Iraqi art in the U.S., educating local schools and communities about Iraq and nonviolence, and partnering with Iraqis to provide clean water for Iraqi schools and hospitals.
Development and Communications Internship:
The Development and Communications Intern will be given significant responsibility and opportunity to build IARP’s fundraising and outreach strategies.
Responsibilities will include:
Development:
- Review current best practices in organizational development plans and help design and implement a development plan for IARP.
- Research prospects and coordinate and compile research.
- Draft and review fundraising letters and grant proposals.
- Assist with coordination of fundraising events and help to manage the fundraising calendar.
- Assist with management of donor databases.
- Assist with financial accounting and budgeting.
Communications:
- Assist in developing and implementing communications strategies to help increase visibility of IARP’s work.
- Assist with production of communications materials, including the newsletter, articles, and press releases.
- Assist with organization and maintenance of IARP’s website.
The Development and Communications Intern will report to Luke Wilcox, Communications Director.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in and knowledge of non-profit development and communications
- Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Internet research
- Ability to manage time and work effectively without close supervision
- Interest in international relations, peace-building, or international non-profit organizations helpful.
Internship Details:
- Approximately 20-40 hours per week (or as determined by selected applicant’s schedule).
- Specific dates of internship are negotiable.
- Compensation: this is an unpaid internship. Intern will gain significant experience developing an international non-profit organization.
