Update: Home of Memories is closed until November 17th due to a possible exposure to COVID-19 to one of the Banfill-Locke Center for the Art's staff. At this point in time we have no reason to believe that any recent visitors to the center would have been exposed, but BLCA is taking every precaution to keep staff, members, and visitors safe in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, you can still view Home of Memories virtually at https://www.banfill-locke.org/homeofmemories.
We are excited to present to you an exhibition exploring homemaking and memories in the portraits of Iraqi Minnesotans by Iraqi Minnesotan photographers Ahmed Alshaikhli and Jaafar Alnabi. Curated by the CarryOn Homes collective, the exhibition will be held at the Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts in the Downstairs Galleries from October 10, 2020 – December 12, 2020. These portraits and stories give us a complex and intimate portrayal of what home was, is, and what it can be. In conjunction with the exhibition, attendees will be able to join virtual discussions with the artists, curators, and storytellers. Additional programming details to be announced on IARP and BLCA websites. We invite you to a socially distanced opening day reception October 10, 1-4 PM, featuring Iraqi music and light refreshments.
In light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, a virtual exhibition, including a 3-D walkthrough, is available. The BLCA is limiting visitor capacity in the building to 25% and taking extra sanitization precautions in the galleries. Masks are required.
If you’ve already visited the exhibition online or in-person, share your thoughts by taking our visitor survey in Arabic or in English. Your feedback allows us to plan future projects that best serve our community and our purpose of reconciliation.
Dates: October 10, 2020 – December 12, 2020 | Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm or by appointment. Closed November 24-28 for Thanksgiving
